No-exam life insurance

What applicants qualify, how accelerated review operates, and what happens if you don't qualify.

Many carriers now offer accelerated underwriting: applicants within certain age and benefit limits are approved using the application itself, prescription records, driving records and similar data instead of a medical exam. Decisions can arrive within a day. Each rate shown here indicates whether an exam is required, possibly required, or not required for that product.

What it changes

Accelerated review still includes verification and evaluation. A policy issued on false or incomplete answers may be challenged in the first two years. If the carrier's investigation raises questions, it might still request an exam or labs—you decide then whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Applicants typically younger than about 60, applying for amounts up to what the carrier permits in accelerated review, with no serious health history and no tobacco use in the past year or longer. A recent medical visit with bloodwork might substitute for an exam at some carriers.

If an exam becomes necessary, it's usually a 20- to 30-minute appointment at a place you choose (home or workplace) in the Simi Valley region with a licensed paramedical technician, at no expense to you. Good results from testing can upgrade your rate classification for healthy applicants, which means an exam may actually work in your favor.
